Being able to speak even a little bit of Spanish will make your time there a lot more enjoyable and the more you can speak with the locals the more you will understand the people and culture of Spain.
We know learning languages can be difficult but it really is the worth the effort, even if you only learn to say “Buenas Dias” and “Gracias” properly. But if that is really all you are going to learn, it is also useful to be able to say “Sorry, I don’t speak much Spanish, do you mind if we talk in English” – a little politeness and respect goes a long way in Spain and that is much better than just blundering in talking English and expecting them to do the same.
(Lo siento, no hablo mucho español , ¿te importa si hablamos en Inglés?)
If you want to go a bit further than that, there are loads of Spanish learning resources available online to help you from absolute beginner to fluent speaker. A lot of them are free but some of the paid ones will get you going a lot faster and are very good value compared to the benefit you will get.
